John von neumann: he wrote a fifty-page report on what a computer is and how to built it. Still used as a reference today to build all the computers today; still based on his original concept. Alan turing: he conceptualizes the machines; very well known in psychology and philosophy. Mainframe computers took up the entire room to store and in order to operate it you need to be trained for months. If (cid:455)ou did(cid:374)"t k(cid:374)o(cid:449) ho(cid:449) to operate it, (cid:455)ou (cid:449)ere(cid:374)"t allo(cid:449)ed to e(cid:374)ter the room, because it was kept so clean. The banks could afford it to connect many people together. Airlines were able to coordinate everything when it came to booking tickets. Scientific exploration: government would buy in order to expand research especially in space. The user base of this computer was very small.
