Document Summary
Memory: the persistence of learning over time through the encoding, storage and retrieval information. Relearning it more easily on a later attempt. Bringing previously learned information into conscious awareness, as in a fill-in-the- blank question on a test. Correctly identifying previously learned information when exposed to it again, as in a multiple-choice test. The individual shows how much time (or effort) is saved when learning material for a second time. He tried to learn (memorize) a list of nonsense syllables. The more times he rehearsed the list on day one, the less time it look to memorize the list on day two. Speed of relearning is one measure of memory retention. *we retain more when our learning involves more time and repetition: tests of recognition and of time spent relearning demonstrate that we remember more than we can recall. Limited in duration: after 3 seconds, only 50% is recalled, after 12 seconds almost nothing is remembered.
