Intro to media and society september 26th. Society (a) general term for the body of institutions and relationships within which a relatively large group of people live. Society (b) an abstract term for the conditions in which such relationships are formed. Culture (a) notion of tending/growing/developing transferred to people developing of one"s mind; in particular, a general process of intellectual, spiritual, and aesthetic development . Culture (b) second sense centres on the works and practices that are the focus of this process of development: intellectual and artistic works (music, painting, sculpture, dramatic arts, classical, fine arts). These high culture forms contrast against more everyday popular culture. Culture (c) roots in anthropology generally used to indicate a particular way of life, whether of a people, a group, or humanity in general . From this perspective, culture includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, custom, and any other capabilities acquired by man as a membership of society .
