Leadership is a practice, not a position. Adaptive leaders: mobilize, motivate, organize, orient, focus the attention of others. Situational challenges leader behaviours adaptive work. Problems that are clearly de ned with known solutions that can be implemented through existing organizational procedures. Ex if your company makes washing machines and a hose tends to crack in cold weather, the engineers know that an adjustment needs to be made. A lot of problems fall in this category and they are good at solving it. Problems that are not clear-cut or easy to identify. In an adaptive challenge, the people are part of the problem. And their ownership of the problem, and their responsibility-responsibility-thing for the problem, becomes part of the solution itself . Ex: rcmp has an old boys club mentality - has to adapt the culture to be more accepting and respectful of women. Challenges are clearly de ned but do not have straightforward solutions.
