Anatomy and Cell Biology 2221 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Flexor Pollicis Muscle, Adductor Pollicis Muscle, Metacarpophalangeal Joint
Document Summary
Fibrous- palmar aponeurosis and fibrous sheets around digits. Bulbous muscles on thumb and picky side- thenar eminence (thumb) hyperthenar (pinky) Palmaris brevis- deepens pocket in hand- better gripping surface. I: 1st proximal phalange- not crossing all the way to interphalangeal joint- not flexing tip of thumb. Flexor pollicus longus- flexion of 1st interphalangeal joint. F: opposition of thumb- touch thumb to finger. Ulnar nerve travels to palm and has a deep branch. F: 5th digit flexion at metacarpophalangeal joint- won"t cause a full fist. Spreading fingers- moving away from middle finger = abduction. Under aponeurosis- can see tendons of muscles going to the digits. Can"t see until you move digital sheath- why you can"t feel those tendons in your own finger. Coming off fdp tendons and going to lateral side of the back of the fingers. If you can see tendon, lumbricals are still there* If tendons gone, deeper then this level * 1st lumbrical is on your 2nd digit.
