Document Summary

Femur articulates anteriorly with patella and posteriorly with tibia. Strong fascia that divides the 3 compartments in the thigh and 3 compartments in the leg. In each compartment, most of the muscles do the same action*-some exceptions for muscles that cross more than one joint. Innervation through lumbrosarcal plexus- contribution from spinal nerves emerging from lumbar region that come together in plexus and join up with spinal nerves coming from the sacral region. Femoral (anterior compartment), obturator, sciatic (bundle of 2 nerves- largest nerve in the body), superior and inferior gluteal nerves. Splits to external iliac artery- once it passes inguinal ligament and enters anterior thigh- becomes femoral artery. Off of internal iliac artery- gluteal and obturator arteries. 2 pelvic bones that are fused together, and fused with the sacrum. Acts to transfer bw/forces equally to both lower limbs. Formed from fusion of 3 different bones: ilium, ischium, pubis.
