Anatomy and Cell Biology 2221 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Tight Junction, Melanin, Melanocyte
Document Summary
Plays a significant role in the body because it protects it from. Made up of mostly epithelial tissue harmful external substances. Most of the cells are dead , but there are still many living. Since it"s dead it can take a lot of damage cells that come and fix specific areas of the skin that becomes damaged. Consists of the epidermis and dermis, with the hypodermis underneath the dermis. Layers: epidermis, made up of mainly epithelial tissue, most outer layer of the skin, keratinized squamous epithelium. Composed of numerous layers of dead squamous cells, which are specially structured to be waterproof and reduce evaporation from underlying tissues. Basale: most active and deepest layer, furthest away from external environment, contains cells that are replicating. Lucidum: thick skin that contains dead cell tissue, protect the skin in areas most common to damage, only found in our palms and the bottom of our feet.
