Anatomy and Cell Biology 3309 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Intestinal Villus, Glycocalyx, Microvillus
Document Summary
Acb 3309 lecture 8 (30) digestive system small & large intestine. Small intestine function = digestion & absorption: only the small intestine has finger-like projections going into the lumen, called villi. Crypts of lieberkuhn = glands that produced material aka intestinal glands: contains mucous secreting glands aka bruner"s gland only found in duodenum, mucosa, muscularis externa inner circular & outer longitudinal. Intestinal villi: muscularis mucosae, have lymphoid nodules galt (gut associated lymphoid tissue) Paneth cell have apical secretory granules & produce lysozyme (digestive enzyme breaks down wall of bacteria so lymphocytes have access to the pathogen) Intestinal villi can be viewed in two ways. Simple columnar epithelium, w enterocytes and goblet cells. Lacteal/lymphatic vessel is shown as a white space lined by endothelial cells. Sometimes has smooth muscle helps elongate or shorten villi: cross-sectionally. Epithelium has a brush border (microvilli: right underneath, have the terminal bar (actin filaments)
