Document Summary

Big cable- peripheral nerves somewhat look like it. Nerves can be really big, ie sciatic nerve which runs from back to legs. It contains several thousands of fibers (axons), they could be either afferent (going to cns/sensory) or efferent (go from cns to effectors/muscle in somatic). So info is traveling in both directions in the same nerve (mixed nerve). There are myelinated fibers and non myelinated fibers in the same nerve as well. And they could also be from somatic and autonomic nervous system. We talked about spinal chord, and it was mentioned that sensory neurons innervate skin and their cell bodies are in the drg, and their axons enter the spinal chord (these axons are in the nerve still). We also have these big motor neurons whose cell bodies lie in the cns in the spinal chord, in the ventral horn, and they send their long axons to the muscle.
