Document Summary
In general we can divide the nervous system in 2 morphological divisions; the cns(brain and spinal chord) and pns (all the cranial spinal and peripheral nerves) There are specific differences between cns and pns, one of the main differences is that pns can regenerate, ie if you cut a nerve in your finger, eventually the nerve undergoes regrowth and re innervates the finger. Interms of functional divisons, we hav 3 major divisons. The first is the somatic; it"s the one where you get sensory input from the periphery into the brain. You become aware of it and feel it and create a behavour response to it using skeletal muscle (voluntary). We have afferent info (from body parts to brains so sensory info). Efferent goes to the effector/striated muscle to create a voluntary movement. Second division is the autonomic;nothing that you can voluntarily contorl or you are aware off. Also involves afferent/efferent but you are not aware conciously (heart control, salivating).
