Anatomy and Cell Biology 3319 Lecture Notes - Lecture 23: Defecation, Abdominal Internal Oblique Muscle, Xiphoid Process
Document Summary
Lecture 23 bony pelvis and abdominal muscles. Describe the anatomy of the bony pelvis. Describe the action of the sternocleidomastoid (scm) muscle. Describe the arrangement and actions of the 4 abdominal muscles. Review the actions of the abdominal and back muscles. The pelvis is part of the appendicular skeleton, not the axial skeleton. The pelvic girdle is a circle of bones around the waist. It is made of the sacrum and two hip bones/anominate bones. The hip bone is made of 3 parts, all arising from a different ossification centre (total of 6): Ilium most superior part: the ilium of the 2 hip bones specifically articulates with the auricular surface of the sacrum on either side, forming the sacroiliac joint, the ilium also contains the iliac crest. The location right in front of the psis is where the ischium articulates with the sacrum (imagine the sacrum going there to get a better idea of where the psis is located).
