Document Summary

At the center of the system is coronary circulation, the heart. Blood comes into the heart through the right side from the head and the limbs into the right atrium, then right ventricle, goes out through the pulmonary trunk (pulmonary arteries) to the lungs. In the lungs, blood is exposed to oxygen and leaves the lungs through the pulmonary veins and blood is now red (o2) - oxygenated. Goes to the left side of the heart through the left atrium, left ventricle and then through the aorta where it is pumped to the various organs of the body (e. g. the liver) All of this is driven by the rhythmic beating of the heart. 4 chambers (right atrium, right ventricle, left atrium, left ventricle) Atria have thin muscle, ventricles have thick muscle. Most of the pumping of the heart is done by the ventricles.
