A loss of func in the cerebral cortex for a variety of reasons: concussion, brain injury, stroke, neurodegenerative disease, any time you"re losing neurons in a specific area of the brain. Biggest thing to remember: motor commands rely on sensory input. A lot of sensory awareness comes in from primary sensory cortical area; e. g. visual system is in the primary visual cortex somatosensory cortex. Propioception, awareness of body / limbs in space, is in the postcentral gyrus in the primary. These are the first sites of awareness having a level of awareness to do some sort of action. Association sensory areas are involved in making sense of what is happening. Then you send the info the pmaa, integrating multisensory information. As you are sitting there, and thinking about all the info whitehead is telling us, we"re processing auditory and visual information, integrating those all together through the pmaa.
