Document Summary
Layers of the perineum: superficial, middle, deep. In the female the urogenital triangle contains: clitoris, urethra and vagina. Important to note that: the clitoris has nothing to do with the urethral opening in the female. From a superficial view (shown in picture) the superficial layer and middle layer are contained within the urogenital triangle, while the deep layer is only seen from the anal triangle. The levator ani muscles can be seen in the anal triangle. The perineal body is located in the middle between the two triangles. Objective: describe the compartments and contents of the perineum. Middle layer = also known as the urogenital diaphragm : contains a membrane, muscle than another membrane, it forms a sandwich , it is within the urogenital triangle. Deepest layer = floor of the pelvis (also called the pelvic diaphragm: can only see this in the anal triangle. Male: covers the bulb of the penis. Covering arectal tissue in male and female.
