Cerebral cortex (gray matter: superficial cortical layer of gray matter containing neuronal cell bodies. Cerebral white matter: deeper layer of white matter containing fibers connecting cell bodies to other cortical areas and the rest of the brain. Deep gray matter: basal ganglia deepest layer of large collections of neuronal cell bodies. Cerebrum makes up 83% of total brain mass. Contains sensory and motor areas; specifically, sensory is located dorsal to the central sulcus, while motor is located ventral to the central sulcus (i. e. frontal cortex) Gyri (ridges) and sulci (grooves) provide anatomical separation of areas.
