Document Summary
Alfred adler"s main ideas: four major lifestyle types. Ruling type: dominant superiority over others; wants to exploit and control others. Getting type: attaining personal goals by relying indiscriminately on others for help. Avoiding type: lacking the confidence to confront problems by ignoring them. Socially useful type: actively confronting and solving their problems in accordance with social interest. Positive: feelings of inferiority and striving for superiority. A feeling that one is inferior than others in some way. It is a defense mechanism in which people try to overachieve in an area to compensate for failures in another. Adler: an inferiority complex is one of the contributing factors to childrens problem behaviours. In older persons: when a person is not satisfied of one aspect of his/her self but attaches too much importance to it. Example: if you are short and you always think about how you want to be tall (not good enough); you suffer from the inferiority complex.
