The generic/ non-proprietary is the commonly used name for a drug; a name that is given and can be used by a company marketing it. The trade name is given by a company and can only be used by that company. Most of the drugs discussed will be street names; which are often derivatives of trade names; can also refer to the physical aspect or purported effect of the drug.
