Biochemistry 3381A Lecture 6: Lecture 6 - Physiological significance of membrane traffic
Document Summary
Lecture 6: physiological significance of membrane traffic: endocytic pathway with uptake and delivery ultimate acidic environment is lysosome. Things can pass through compartments, need increasingly acidic environments: when get to the end, they get degraded in the lysosome. Enzymes activated at the low ph that can degrade the protein: things come into the cell and recycle back to the cell in the pathway, cell take advantage of low ph at early part of pathway. Secretory pathway: golgi complex secretory pathway. Move from the rer to the golgi and then come out to the cell surface: move through compartments by budding off one end and moving to the next one, through structure to plasma membrane. Trans (tgn) has the processed protein ready for secretion. As the protein travels through the golgi, it is modified to influence function and destination: each area of golgi has its own identity.
