Lecture 003: isolation and analyses of cell organelles and molecules. Labeling live cells with fluorescent antibodies or stains. A wbc expresses certain types of transmembrane proteins (ex. You can make that are conjugated with fluorophores to find them. A membrane permeable dye that bind to intracellular structure (dna) can be use to tag intracellular structures. These methods can be used to quantify the types of cells that we labelled. Cells flow through a laser light in single file. Laser illuminate the sample and the light emitted by the cell is detected. Detectors can quantify the fluorescence that is given off by the cell. Can also use this to isolate the cells. Tell you how many of a certain type of cell is in a sample. Have a charged plate apply a high electric field onto the desired cell types. Allow for the charged cells to be collected into a separate container.
