Biology 2382B Lecture 10: Lecture 10
Document Summary
Most important microtubule function: traps for transport. Microtubule come from the centrosome in the middle of the cell and go towards the outside of the cell: plus end going towards the outside. Anterograde transport go toward the cell surface: go toward the plus end of the microtubule. If you add the right reagents you get transport: atp required if you add it there is transport, if you inhibit it there is no transport. Depending on how you prepare the microtubules & how you image, see things moving along: visualize movement along microtubule using different optics + frets. Movement: small things & large things, fast and slow speeds, different directions, bottom to top, top to bottom. In an assay to identify the motor proteins. Labelled proteins travel at different speeds in cells (not diffusion) Radio active amino acids. to label motor proteins and axons.
