Determine what is normal so we can fix the abnormal . Eukaryotic cells have a nucleus (contains genetic information) and plasma membrane. In cytoplasm, there are many different things: organelles such as mitochondria, lysosomes, peroxisomes, secretory vessels, structures such as endoplasmic reticulum and golgi apparatus. Ultimate goal: to understand how macromolecular systems and organelles work and cooperate to enable cells to function autonomously and in tissues. Hypothesis-driven experiments question related to how a cell does things. First, you"ll need the tools & methods to: In order to understand how cell goes about that we need to be able to look at cells: separate cell organelles. Identify and study how proteins drive a cell biological process. Once you have the tools, we can start to ask, and more importantly begin to answer, biological questions pertaining to our ~ 75 trillion cells.
