Biology 2483A Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Antimicrobial Resistance
Document Summary
Systems are so diverse many redundancies, many species could disappear from this forest and it would look the same still. Pollution downstream effects to what happens in one system to others. Use resources to benefit them in some way ex using all energy for growth thus cant do other things. Antibiotic resistance shift from most non resistant to all resistant. Time scale and spacial scale are important in monitoring. 2 important driving factors : energy and nutrients. Usually start off small and move larger based on results. Frogs in a pond all have deformaties legs growing randomly. Numbers are all pretty high in the 100s. Lots of amphibian species that have been declined in recent decades. They can be early indicator to environmental problem. Initially thought that these flatworms make cysts grow in tadpoles limbs therefore they grow more limbs. This cycle and parasite ending up in frogs kinda shows it may be caused by parasite.
