Document Summary

Lecture 17 endocrinology 3: gonadotropin inhibiting hormone. How does the inhibition work: steroid receptors not apparently present in, could also be via steroid receptors. Hormones in hypothalamus release gnrh acts on pituitary to release lh and fsh produce t and p & e negative feedback and acts on hypo to stop releasing gnrh. No receptor in the hypo for p&e and t to bind to. An rf-amide neuropeptide: arg-phe-nh2, discovered originally in clams (not gnih, but the rf-amine neuropeptides) A survey of rf-amide neuropeptides in japanese quail brains revealed a novel rf-amide, subsequently shown to inhibit gnrh release in quail anterior pituitaries in vitro. Can get a lot of clams, grind them up, and extract a lot of neuropeptides. Could have anterior pituitaries in a petri dish and you could see what was going on can manipulate them to observe differences in gnrh based on hormonal differences. Identification and characterization of a gonadotropin-inhibitory system in the brains of mammals.
