Bioinformatics & future of genetics how does bioinformatics apply to us? not as genetics students but as a person in general, out in the world. Many jobs available/growing in the bioinformatics/genomics sector: central to so much of science and healthcare, jobs in both back (design, development) and front end (instruction, implementation) of bioinformatics sector. 2 main topics involving bioinformatics assembling & searching genomes. *note: may have a very good algorithm but if there is too much data, require a computer powerful enough to process it now that you have the genome sequence, need to figure out what kind of sequence it is. Aa sequences that were translated from known nt. sequences search all possible frames (6 frames) blastp search unknown aa sequence against known aa sequences. Blast considers multiple genetic codes (e. g. cox1 mt. gene) if rna editing is involved, better to use rna sequence in search.
