If there were no speciation, it would just be microevolutionary changes. All conservation laws are directed towards the protection of an endangered species (not subspecies) ; ex: savannah elephants need to be conserved/ protected, african elephants are ne. Practical applications to what we consider district species. Over 50 species concepts have been proposed. Do 2 individuals look alike? or do they look like different things. Species = a distinct cluster in phenotypic space, non overlapping with other clusters . If things look the same then they belong to the same species. Ex: humans don"t look like chimps, therefore we are not the same species. Sometimes misleading, leads to conclusions that are not sensible. Ex: different breeds of dogs must be different species according to msc. Ex: a duck with green head and a brown duck, therefore they must be diff. species according to mcs.
