Document Summary

There are 22 autosomes, and an x and a y you need to sequence all of those. Annotation: nding the genes and sequences/parts and labelling them. Here, there are 6 possible frames that the gene could be coded. Comparing an orf with other sequences in a database is essential to ensure whether it is a gene or not. Potential genes can be identi ed by : computer searches for orf"s, comparisons with known databases (blast searches) Some genes are coded on top strand, some on the other. There is very little space in a prokaryotic genome and therefore they are highly condensed. Synthesized genome, smaller than any known free living microbe. Twice the size of minimal genome estimated by comparative genomics. Note: e. coli (prokaryotic) genome is much much denser than ours. Yes - it is very rare, but yes. Yes - so long as they are coded on opposite strands.
