Lecture 4: biodiversity: the approximate times by which the first cells, and the first eukaryotic cells, had appeared. The first organisms may have been single- celled methane producing bacteria that existed more than 3. 5 billion years ago. Life was then classified into prokaryotes and eukaryotes using cellular characters. Then, the five kingdom scheme came into being. Eukarya: main characteristics distinguishing members of the eubacteria, archaea, eukarya domains of life. Archaea tend to live under harsher conditions.
