Biology 1002B Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Transmembrane Protein, Start Codon, Exon

28 views2 pages

Document Summary

Transcription begins immediately after the promoter, so the 5" utr is going to be transcribed, and everything from the start codon to just downstream of the promoter. The utr is a region that is transcribed but is not translated. Cftr (transmembrane protein) gets translated on the er and needs a target sequence, ie. a tag ( rst few bases of the rst exon). Binding proteins onto dna can affect transcription. Anything that affects the binding of proteins could also in uence regulations. Enhancers function as double stranded dna, can be far away from the gene being regulated. Enhancers are directionally independent- ie. you could invert an enhancer and it would still work (but promoters cant, and they have to be close) Enhancers bind different activator proteins, allowing different genes to be expressed in different body cells (tissue speci c activators) Sthre (steroid hormone response) positive regulator sites that stimulate the presence of hormones.
