Document Summary

The process in which a lymphocyte is specifically selected for cloning when it encounters a foreign antigen from a randomly generated diversity of lymphocytes with receptors that specifically recognize the antigen. Primary immune response system takes a couple weeks to respond to the antigen. It takes longer because the antigen is being exposed to the body for the first time and therefore the body has to make antibodies in response to fight it off. The secondary immune response to the same antigen is much faster, active a couple of days because the body is able to provide immediate protection. The antibodies have already been created don"t need to initiate clonal selection a second time. Note that igg is the predominant antibody produced in the 1st and 2nd immune response. The substance responsible for allergic reactions are a distinct class of antigens called allergens.
