Biology 1201A Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Allele Frequency, Population Genetics, Genotype Frequency
Document Summary
Populaion always refer to individuals of the same species with the ability to interact and interbreed. Frequency of recessive, dominant or any alleles are roughly constant: true if no outside features (ie: forces) inluencing allele frequencies. Recessive alleles aren"t necessarily in low frequency in a populaion. Allele frequencies can be used to predict genotype frequencies: again assuming that there"s no outside forces inluencing them. Hwe what we predict a populaion to look like if there"s nothing interesing going on. This is a null hypothesis what we expect when there"s nothing interesing going on: we know that all these things don"t happen. Let p be the frequency of one allele (a1) Let q be the frequency of the other allele (a2) Q squared is homozygous for a2 (a2 x a2) 2pq is heterozygous for a1 a2: its 2 ime pq because there"s two ways to get that heterozygote. A populaion of catle is composed of 50 red, 64 roan, 34 white.
