Biology 1202B Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Hmg-Coa Reductase, Pravastatin, Apoptosis
Document Summary
How will graph a change if substrate is limited (ie, fixed amount of substrate): graph will drop, line will go until you run out of substrate. How will graph b change if enzyme concentration is increased: vmax will increase, the more enzymes you have, the more products you"re making, it will eventually plateau. How will graph b change if enzyme is unlimited: will look more like graph a. Eventually cause you have fixed amount of inhibitor you will have a max amount. Substrate will eventually out compete the inhibitor. (cause it"s a competitive irreversible inhibitor). We should be able to recognize the graph and say if its competitive or non- competitive. You can"t measure km for non functional enzymes. The more km you have the less affinity you have. This is a pathway to make ctp. What"s going on: covered in last lecture, theres a name for it. Enzymes are given a commission # based on their function.
