In eastern europe, orients, and russia, people want to know whether it"s a edible mushroom, or toadstool (no such thing as a toadstool). A toad sitting on an edible mushroom makes it poisonous not true. Amongst poisonous mushrooms, there are 8 major groups of mushroom poisoning based on symptoms and the underlying toxins. Some of the worst are the death caps all contain amanitins which inhibit rna polymerase which is required in protein formation, specific in liver cells so they"re highly hepatotoxic. Gyromitrin in false morels doesn"t kill many people but it can. Orellanine is another liver toxin, very slow acting. Muscarine is trivial unless you"re small; children/dogs/cats eating the mushrooms can be killed most adults have minor symptoms. Coprine is fine to eat unless mixing with alcohol. Hallucinogenic components from magic mushrooms are psilocybin and psilocin. Last group are fungi that makes you feel sick.
