Lecture 10 neurophysiology 2: very fast reactions (the c-start in fishes) Small fish are delicious 0 reproductive fitness if they get eaten. Very strong selection pressures to escape predators like puffins. Driven by the activity of 2 neurons; one on either side of the fish. Krogh model is the nerve/neuronal system, not specific species of fish. Stimulus is a bubble/vibration immediately fish arcs its body into a c-shape and swims away at 900 to its previous orientation. Fish could do this from stationary or from swimming to fire off very quickly key: very fast response. Conserved across fish of different shapes and sizes. Have a line along the side of the fish (can see in their scale) and it is a channel that lies just under the skin of the fish one of the major inputs. Openings to the outside (pores) and along these channels in the middle of each channel there is a sensory neuromast.
