Gets people to transcend themselves to help groups. 4 elements: vision (something to work towards that inspires others, authenticity (authentic in commitment, integrity, honesty, growth mindset (cultivate development, invest in people, recognize effort and performance, creativity (encourage ideas, flare and originality, allow measured risks, innovation) Linked to charisma, a gift that people possess, almost supernatural. Model of tl: idealized influence (charisma, role model, perfection, inspirational motivation (vision, intellectual stimulation (green trait, realism, appeal to head not heart, individualized consideration (lmx, establish relationships) Tied to transactional leadership- in terms of contrast and complement rewards and management by expectation. Weber"s charisma: quality of an exceptional person, they are treated as a leader. Transformational leadership is better than transactional, but together they are stronger than either. Need more direct link between leader behavior and impact.
