Life-space where a person spends their day/night. Can be concentric zones (ie. for disabled person bed, bedroom, bathroom) Movement from inner to outer zone = through gates (getting out of bed, rising from chair, walking, climbing stairs, crossing street, using vehicle: need programmed movements. Mobility ability to move independently through life-space (using walking aid, but not wheelchair or car) Immobility impairment of ability to move independently, resulting in limitation of life-space. Master command tells subject to rise or walk. Modifying command changes movement in light of events (speed up/down) Physical symptoms (breathlessness, fatigue, pain, instability, angina) Psychological factors (depression, anxiety, agoraphobia, fear of falling, no where to go, no one to go with you) Environmental factors (ill fitting shoes, stairs, hills, traffic, broken ground, weather) Normal balance ability to fix unexpected large displacements in short period of time. Instability impairment of ability to correct displacement of body during movement in space.
