An ozone (cid:498)hole(cid:499) occurs when the ozone concentration in the lower stratosphere (where most but not all the ozone is) goes almost to zero for a period of time: a period of time during the year. Most dramatic over south pole during the spring season: ozone depleted air heads northwards and affects south america and australia. Ozone hole is 1/3 of what it should be. Close to tip of south america and close to australia. Amount of ozone over polar regions is usually higher than temperate regions which in turn is greater than over the tropics. Very-low overhead ozone occurs over the south pole, where levels usually are highest: this is the season where maximum polar [ozone] normally occurs, spring: sun is hitting the atmosphere again and have all the mechanisms to make. Happens in september october which is early spring in antarctica. Spring months in the southern hemisphere minimum hits.
