Document Summary

Ozone layer screens uv light in the atmosphere. If we are now exposed to it, it is damaging. It is produced naturally, not as a by product of pollution. Ozone hole created through atmospheric pollution over antarctica: damage is starting to repair itself. Function of ozone layer is to filter (remove) harmful uv rays of sunlight. So going farther up = farther away from earth. Atmosphere gets thinner as you altitude increases. Stratosphere is delineated by temperature, not the ozone: ends at the maximum, starts at a minimum (it starts to increase) Ozone concentration at ground level is not 0: we are exposed to ozone. Atmosphere gets thinner and temperature decreases as you go to high altitude. Contains most of the mass (85%) of the atmosphere. Temperature and air pressure decrease as altitude increases. Defined as the region where the temperature trends display reversals.
