Not so much roman philosophy, but roman engagement with greek philosophy. Some hellenistic philosophy survives only in roman reception. Philosophy continued to flourish at athens in the century following aristotle"s death in 322. After this point, philosophy became more relatable to the modern idea of philosophy. People from non-greek backgrounds were attracted to athens. Various buildings and the desire of the ptolemaic kings to make it a focus. Athens, meanwhile, became the focus of non-scientific research. This division leads to more specialisation on both sides, an intellectual partitioning of the world of knowledge. It became similar to modern notions of philosophy. Less comprehensive than the intellectual initiatives of plato and aristotle. To aristotle, all of this was philosophy in the all-encompassing meaning of the word, It is uncertain if plato and aristotle were in fact attempting to produce systems. Philosophy was now an integrated system for a complete understanding of the world"s basic structure and our place in it.
