Document Summary
Dominated greek politics for an extended period of time: more significant political and military figure in greek history. Primary source criticism: the spartan mirage: the mind and the body coming together to make a soldier was their version of excellence, this meant that the arts were not emphasized. Greeks viewed them as barbaric, akin to wild animals. Dorians: spartans were a part of this ethnic group, the descendants of hercules who invaded mainland greece, were thought to have been competitive and hard working. Seemed to have the basic constitution of all polis. Elders: a group of 30 elders plus the two kings to oversee meetings. Popular assembly: an assembly of all the male citizens to make decisions. Dual monarchy: two kings who would carry out the decisions of the popular assembly; they had to agree with one another and work together, no one king had more power than the other; two royal families.
