Document Summary
The priestess (delphi oracle) tells the story of how prophecy was inherited to apollo: The priestess enters the temple and comes out screaming at the image of the furies. Apollo, hermes, and orestes are in the temple and apollo tells orestes to travel to. Athens to meet trial under athena: apollo also purified him and tells him to travel quickly, for the furies will follow soon after. The ghost of clytemnestra comes to wake the sleeping furies in apollo"s temple. Apollo threatens the furies to leave his temple or die. Apollo argues that orestes had every right to kill clytemnestra, but the furies say that. Clytemnestra"s murder of agamemnon was not of kindred blood, so the crime is not the same. Apollo says the furies have no right to chase orestes, because they don"t honour the sacred vows of marriage as they do the ties of blood.
