Exam is in tc 341 oct 26, 7-8. Pentathlon: events (5) - stadion, wrestling (pale), the discus throw, the jump (halma) and the javelin (akon) Exact criteria for victory in pentathlon not known. Paides (boys) age group competition introduced at olympia in 628 bce, but immediately eliminated after that. Aristotle shows that olympic victors in boys age division seldom won in open divisions. Not clear on standardized weight but most common is 21 cm in diameter and about 2 kgs. Same as modern discus but some larger, some smaller. Three discoi used in competition- kept in a treasury at olympia. Townley discoblos has the head facing down because the head fell off and they put it back together incorrectly. Says ancient discus much heavier (not true- heavy discus probably decorative) The expert instructs the athlete in a completely different form, does not ask the athlete to figure out the way to throw the discus farthest.
