It lies over earlier hunter-gatherer evidence on the site, which means the same people were settling in the same spot. In pre-pottery a period, from 8500-7300 bc; developments that were unexpected; this type of complexity is unexpected. Probably used for defending the city, keeping watch outside of the city wall.
