When you see a circle in plan, it"s doric; circle within a circle means ionic (representing the base) You"d walk in and see the parthenon in the distance. There were paintings on wood that depicted battle at marathon very important historical images. Temples only put mythological scenes so they will definitely put historical images elsewhere like here. Not meant to just go through this propylaia, meant for viewing these paintings. When approaching acropolis, this is what you see. Temple of athena nike right nearby: a temple for a victory. This little temple is put on this intentionally built-out part of the acropolis so this can sit prominently and be in-your-face. This has been taken down and reassembled 4-5 times. Ionic order, called a prostyle temple; means that these 4 columns are out in the very front no walls on the side; not peripteral. Columns are mirrored on both sides; two rows, one row on either side of the temple.
