Document Summary

In my final week of summer i stumbled upon the short story good old neon , written by the late david foster wallace. Upon reading this story, i was confused as to how i felt. Through the first week of english 1020e, things have been somewhat explained to me as to what i was going through after reading this story. See, in the past i had read with the mindset that all stories were to be fully understood and appreciated. I thought that i was to master a story, *conquer* it. Somewhere near the end of good old neon , i realized that if there was any conquering going on; i was in fact the one on the underside of the boot. This was my first memorable experience of being uncomfortable with my ability to understand and comprehend what i was reading. At first i was almost embarrassed, and felt self-disappointment.
