Main focus as a poet is on the relationship between past and present. The past being felt in the present, how it pressures the present. The poet"s keen desire to uncover history. Is this an innocent act, does it involve violence; tomb raiding. The way history inevitably returns to the present. Is history always going to act as a ghost through violence. Ordered editors to always publish this poem first in his collections. How is it that a pen should be described with this simile (snug as a gun) Relationship between a pen and a gun. Art has the ability to disturb the universe. Any archaeological act, diving or digging into history is violent because it disrupts. Perhaps we should simply let the daed be dead. Ekphrasis - a written representation of a visual one piece of art describing another. Had to be a poem and communicate the painting. The healthy response to the loss of a loved one.
