He"s an american who spends a great deal of his ime in europe as a poet. He is a modern poet: his work at some level is a reacion to the wriing of the previous century. Direct response to what romaic and victorian poetry were doing. It was sot mushy, foggy, too much about the poet. Clich that the romanic poet is always talking about themselves. Wanted to make his poetry cleaner, sharper. Compare his poetry to a polished, steel helmet. There is no excess in his work, no devices unless he needs them: no book words, no bullshit, nothing that doesn"t serve a sharp purpose. His poetry is his religion, his blood: not only his, the arist is the one who truly understands the truth of the world.
