Aesthetics study of art as a concept + study of beauty as a concept. Beauty is not something we can make do things for us. One of the things the text is trying to show us, is that making beauty a tool, is inherently unethical. What would dorian gray be in this ideal world with no aesthetics: boring. We live with the effects of death. Death gives life meaning: don"t have to seize the day without death. Death and desire are linked together: i desire because i am not complete , i turn to things or people to fill this lack , we are manipulative/people manipulate us, but we are unaware that it is happening. Our desire is even more elusive to ourselves. We make it the other persons problem, they must know our problem. Gender is a trauma: different between biological sex and gender, expected to perform gender in certain ways, some kinds of performances privileged over other.
