Document Summary

Story is told in the characters voice: not the poet speaking, the character speaks of another person. Find out more about the speaker (character) than he/she intends or knows: even though they are talking about someone else. 2 voices: character, poet in order to provide some sort of perspective of what is being narrated in the poem, two things happening. Present voice of character, without anyone else coming in and narrating. There is another voice(poet) that is hidden. Soliloquy of the spanish cloister talking about brother lawrence. Talking about what he wants to do to brother lawrence and what he sees rather than actually about him. He is resentful: he thinks brother thinks that he is superior to everyone. Were getting a private window into his thoughts and feelings (cid:1) Brother lawrence is spying on women apparently. But so much detail that we wonder if speaker was too. Speaker has no evidence that brother lawrence was doing this.
