There is no way of talking about life or the world without physically picturing them (cid:1) Art does not simply imitate life, it also acts as a mirror. Can both show us what we don"t want to see and what we actually see. Finding out a lot more about the spectator in relation to the work of art rather than the art work itself. Textual: the book that lord henry gives dorian. Dorian is up and down with his reactions about the painting: On one hand he hates it but on the other he loves it. Identifies with the painting as something that is not him, but it is a thing that feels things and wants him to feel things (mockery) Identification shapes every other possibility of a relationship he will have: will he pick this possibility(relationship) or will be pick another option.
