Document Summary

The story opens with the protagonist arriving at the gothic house. The house is very nice but is cheaply available and has been empty for some time as such, the protagonist wants to see it as haunted with dark secrets. The fact that it is old and surrounded by gardens makes it feel older and more haunted. The settings of the room with the yellow wallpaper things start to get more haunted . Bars on the windows (not uncommon), gouges in the floor, rings in the walls. Seems a bit like an asylum foreshadows the narrator going mad at the end of the story. Red herring haunting seems to be associated with the past. In opening pages of the story, we think that we will find something horrific that happened in the past. We never learn about the mysteries of the past to the events of the present and the declining state of mind of the narrator.
